Beauticians: Who They Are and What They Do!

As long as people have been trying to look their best, and as long as they have had money to spend doing it, beauticians have existed.  Clients expect their beauticians to improve their looks, and there are a variety of ways that a beautician can accomplish it.  Today, you may find that there are beauticians who work on one specific part of the body, while there are others who work towards a whole effect, and in many cases, you are going to find examples of both in any given salon or spa.  Take some time to learn a little more about beauticians and the services that they provide.

In the United States and in many other places as well, any one who sets up shop as a beautician needs to have a license, though what it takes to get a license will vary from state to state.  Some states will require a physical exam, while some have a minimum educational requirement of a high school diploma or a GED.  In some cases, serving an apprenticeship can be easily substituted for getting official licensed, though taking a written test as well as demonstrating some basic ability with the services required is necessary.

There are many different positions and responsibilities that someone who is called a beautician or a cosmetologist might do.  For instance, a shampoo technician is someone who is responsible for washing a client's hair before the hair stylist gets to work, or they may be in charge of putting chemical relaxers in the hair.  A manicurist, on the other hand, is someone who provides services for the fingernails or the hands or both.  When you are working with a manicurist, he or she might simply give you nails a trim or a polish, or you may find that they will provide you with services as varied and complex as giving you artificial nail tips.

When you are looking at more elaborate skin care, the beautician expert that you would go to is called an esthetician. No matter what area of the skin you are looking to take care of, he or she is the individual who can help you.  They may provide you with services as varied as body wraps, cosmetic make-up services, microdermabrasion or facials.    They may also work with a doctor to achieve more complex or advanced processes like deep chemical peels.  Someone who is an esthetician can also provide you with advice regarding your skin and body.

When you are looking for a high tech type of beautician, consider what an electrologist will do.  Instead of offering to remove hair with wax, they will remove hair permanently with an electrolysis machine.  This usually requires a different kind of licensing and training.

Take some time and make sure that you consider what beauticians do and how they do it.  They can provide you with very valuable services when you know what you are looking for, and you never know when a professional who can give you the precise services you need is located very close to you!
