Types of Hair Cream and What You Need to Know

When you are looking to get the perfect look for your hair, you'll find that turning to hair cream is one way to do that.  What you might not know, however, is that there are many different types of hair cream out there, and each one will do something different to your hair.  When you are looking for the best styling products around, there are definitely definitions that you should be aware of.

The first type of hair cream that you are likely to run into falls into the category of hair gel.  Hair gel is simply a type of product that is meant to stiffen your hair.  It is more powerful than hair spray, but less harsh than hair glue or hair wax.  Hair gel is meant to hold your hair in place, but it can e washed out fairly easily.  When purchasing hair gel, remember that you are looking at numbered items.  The higher the number is, the better the holding power.  Hair gel that is numbered lower will not make your hair as stiff.

Hair mousse, on the other hand, is a product that does not have the same ho;d power that hair gel does, but instead is meant for you to be able to add more volume and shine to your hair.  You can find it spray or cream form, and you won't have to worry about getting clumps in your hair or buildup.  With this type of product, you will want to put it in while your hair is damp, not while it is dry.  You will lightly work it in and then style it with a comb to make sure that it is spread out evenly.

Hair wax is another type of hair cream that you may run across.  It tends to be less popular than the two listed above, but it does have a fairly good following.  It is used to hold the hair in place, but it will not make your hair hard the way that hair gel will.  It is one of the oldest known beauty products and hundreds of years ago, it was made with bear fat!  Some of the waxes that go into making it include beeswax, carnauba wax, and castor wax.

Another type of hair cream that you may run into is pomade.  Pomade is also used to style hair, and it will not dry, giving hair a very slick, very shiny look.  When you put pomade in, be ready for it to stay in unless you are also willing to purchase a special type of shampoo, though something like olive oil can be used to lift it out or dish washing liquid can be used to strip it out.  Pomades typically contain something like petroleum jelly, some kind of wax and mineral oil.

When you are considering what kind of hair cream you need, keep your hair type in mind.  If you are prone to hair that is on the greasy side, use hair creams very lightly, if at all.  On the other hand, hair that is naturally dry can greatly benefit from the use of various different kinds of hair cream, so see what is out there!
